One of the reasons parents choose to live in New York City is access to amazing museums, theaters, and concert venues. In particular, I love taking our kids to small neighborhood venues that cater to parents as well as kids. One of my favorite theaters is the Manhattan Children’s Theatre in Tribeca. We’ve seen several shows at MCT, and every one offered a unique twist on stories we all know from our childhood.
MCT’s latest production, Treasure Island at the Irondale Center in Brooklyn, is a perfect example of a show that is enjoyable for kids and adults alike. My son enjoyed the costumes and could relate to the relationship between the boy and his beloved stuffed animal. I enjoyed MCT’s original adaptation that has two adult brothers reminiscing about their mother reading the book to them as children.
The Velveteen Rabbit runs through April 18 and MCT’s next production, Stanley’s Wild Ride premiers on April 24. Join the New York City Dads Group at MCT’s final performance of The Velveteen Rabbit on Sunday, April 18 at 2PM.
