One of the coolest events that NYC has to offer every year is the Tribeca Film Festival. Think about this opportunity – for $15, you get a ticket to see a movie not yet released to the general public, you get to hear some opening words from the director, and at the end of the movie – you get to meet some of the actors/actresses and participate in a Q&A session. Two years ago, I attended the opening for Keeping Up With the Steins directed by Gary Marshall. It was an entertaining movie, plus, I sat in the same row as Doris Roberts (Mom from Everybody Loves Raymond), and I got to ask Jeremy Piven a question at the end. I don’t think every movie experience at theTFF will be as exciting as that, but there are some interesting movies in the program guide for this year.
The Tribeca Film Festival also tries to connect with families and the local community. They offer a FREE all day Family Festival Street Fair from 10 AM to 6PM on Saturday, May 2, on Greenwich Street in Tribeca between Hubert and Chambers Streets. They will have performances and activities, local merchants, and much more. Here is the link for the TFF: http://www.tribecafilm.com/festival/
Unfortunately, there are NO stay-at-home dad films premiering at the Tribeca Film Festival this year. However, there are some documentaries about stay at home dads that have come out recently:
(1) Why Not Dad? is a short documentary made about a group of stay-at-home dads living in San Francisco, and will be screening at the upcoming Sacramento International Film Festival. For information about the film or to view it online visit the official film website at: http://www.whynotdad.com/.
(2) Baltimore Dads, a chapter of Daddyshome, Inc., is featured in a documentary by Loud Communications, LLC. that premiered in January, 2009. From director Michael Schwartz, Happy SAHD, is the story of a dozen Baltimore-area stay-at-home dads. More details about the movie (including a 2-minute trailer) can be found here: http://www.happysahd.com/
