What happens when a DAD-PACK of eighteen active, nurturing, and confident fathers celebrated International Babywearing Week at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City? We caused quite a ruckus!
International Babywearing Week (IBW) (Oct 8 – 14) is a focused opportunity to celebrate, promote, and advocate the many benefits of Babywearing. We thought it would be an excellent display of involved fatherhood to participate in a global parenting event like IBW where we had the chance to bond with our babies and celebrate together with our community of dads! There are so many other advantages and benefits of babywearing beyond bonding with your baby, like less crying (carreid babies cry less), building confident parents, comfort, convenience so you have both hands free, and so many others. To celebrate IBW, the NYC Dads Group partnered up with BRITAX, who offered to sponsor another one of our great meet-ups by offering baby carriers to dads with little ones.
On Wednesday, our dudes group met up by the Temple of Dendur at the MET with our babies in baby carriers to parade around the museum as a “pack.” We turned some heads, caused some foot-traffic jams, and posed for numerous photos taken by museum visitors and tourists…because that’s how we roll.
Bottom line: we had a blast with our little ones exploring ancient temples, Greco-Roman sculptures, and paintings by our favorite Impressionists. The dads enjoyed the camaraderie, the opportunity to talk parenthood (or about the Baseball Playoffs) with the other dads, and the ideal bonding experience with our babies in honor of IBW. Here is our photo-journal to capture our experience….
