Venue Review: Klyde Warren Park

April 19, 2016 by Anton Jacobs

Downtown Dallas features a true gem for families to visit. Klyde Warren Park has quickly become the place to meet up for all ages. It features 4 large lawn spaces, walking trails, a performance pavilion, children’s park, restaurants, food trucks, dog area, and classic games you can borrow. Dallas Dads Group holds a MeetUp on the second Wednesday of each month in the Children’s Park.

Located above Woodall Rogers Freeway, the park is easily accessible for anyone in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex by car. Valet parking is $15 and metered parking is also available for $4/2 hours. Alternatively, you can also ride the DART Rail line (ticket prices vary) to St. Paul station and a short walk ride the M-Line Trolley (free) pick up point at St. Paul and San Jacinto. The trolley provides an additional unique experience children of all ages can enjoy and will drop you off at the park.

The Children’s Park is a unique play area for kids and is great all year round. It has two climbing features for both older and younger kids. The giant orb is great for older kids to climb. It stands about 12 foot tall and is interwoven with strong ropes to keep kids safe. The climbing orb is a great get away from the parents for kids to conquer. Nearby is a caterpillar water feature which projects several arch spouts for kids to run through. The winding path from the orb ends near the entrance to the park with a tiny amplitheater area with a shallow pool for splashing. Be sure to bring an extra change of clothing for the ride home.

For the younger crowd, there is an area with three unique merry-go-rounds which fill up fast. Two individual spinners and a lower larger one that doesn’t go too fast. Adjacent is the low climbing area that is about 5 foot high and has an archway. Little ones love to climb through the web like ropes.

Overall, the park is a great oasis from the day to day for families. The cityscape provides a beautiful backdrop regardless of which activities you choose. It is the place to be in DFW all year around and your family is sure to have a great time at Klyde Warren Park.
