NYC Dads Group is proud to co-sponsor a screening and panel discussion of The Mask You Live In, a documentary that examines how boys and young men struggle to stay true to themselves while negotiating America’s narrow definition of what it means to be a “man.”
The Mask You Live In highlights messages to try to encourage boys who have been pressured by the media, peers, and the adults in their lives to disconnect from their emotions, devalue authentic friendships, objectify and degrade women, and resolve conflicts through violence.
Experts in neuroscience, psychology, sociology, sports, education, and media also weigh in, offering empirical evidence of the “boy crisis” and tactics to combat it.
The screening of The Mask You Live In will be followed by a panel discussion that will include:
- Eric Messinger (moderator), Editor of New York Family Magazine
- Nico Victorino, NYC public school Assistant Principal and Middle School Director.
- Mark Greene, Executive Editor The Good Men Project, and author of Remaking Manhood.
- Dr. Saliha Bava, couples and family therapist in private practice in Manhattan and an associate professor at Mercy College.
The screening and discussion will take place on Wednesday, May 27 at 7:30PM in Battery Park City. Tickets are $15 and must be purchased in advance.
Many thanks to our co-sponsors The Hudson River Park Mothers Group and the PS/IS 276 PTA.
