The Force Awakens in a New Generation

Ariel Isenberg and his son battle it out with foam light sabers.

If you haven’t introduced your kids to Star Wars yet, we’re going to assume that it’s only because he/she/they are still womb-bound. Or that you prefer Star Trek … weirdo.

Regardless, it seems that teaching your kids about The Force (not teaching them The Force but if you could that would be So. Freaking. AWESOME) has replaced buying them first baseball mitts or dance tutus as the essential rite of parenting passage for dads. So how best to do it?

Chicago Dads Group member Ariel Isenberg writes lovingly about how he passed on his love of Luke, Yoda and the others to his boy and girl in a fun piece for our Windy City outpost:

“My kids were first introduced to Star Wars when my parents finally made me haul all my old toys from their house. Scratch that. My dad sold all my Star Wars toys at a garage sale, something I will remember when I have to make life choices for him. My kids were first introduced to Star Wars when I bought some poor guy’s Star Wars toys from his mom at a garage sale this summer. After playing with the Millennium Falcon, AT-AT Walkers, and a TIE Fighter I picked up at the garage sale, they were hooked.”

Well, imagine his kids excitement when dad scored some new The Force Awakens toys from Hasbro in a promotional giveaway he lucked into.
