The At-Home-Dads Convention in Omaha over the weekend was hosted by an active group of dads – the Lincoln/Omaha Dads Group (known as LinOma Dads). Here are a great bunch of regular guys who I enjoyed talking to over the weekend about kids, life, their group, sports, and steaks.
Quick story: When I hit the restroom at the local brewery in Omaha, I sidled up to the urinal. Many guys are familiar with bars posting up the sports section over the urinal so you have something to read when you relieve yourself. My urinal did not have the sports section posted – but, had the front page news of the local paper. There is a picture of a dad loading the dishwasher – the same dad I had been swapping stories with over steaks the night before. The Headline reads: At-Home Dads Gather For Convention. Wow, front page news in the Omaha World Herald! The LinOma Dads Group wrote to the newspaper to inform them about the upcoming convention, and as a result, came one of the most positive, compelling, and well written articles about at-home-dads I have read in quite some time. Maybe I am biased because I know & like the guys mentioned in the article.
Some quotes from the article that jumped out at me, “If anybody’s going to take care of my kids, it’s going to be me”… “Money’s not the only way you can provide for your family”…“Men Who Change Diapers Change the World”…“Most men are doing considerably more than their fathers did,”… “Being an active dad is a cool thing.”
Check out the article including some of the caring fathers in the Lincoln/Omaha Group & let me know what you think…
