Being an organizer of an active, involved, and vibrant dads support/playgroup in NYC (with a membership currently at 99 dads), it is always helpful for me to read relevant articles on the topic of playgroups. Reading about other successful groups and talking with the members of your own group provides an organizer (like myself) with some effective tools to keep the group active and engaged. This past weekend I read an article on iParenting.com that is worth sharing. Paternal Playgroups: The Benefits of an All-Dads Group by Teri Brown includes tips and best practices for all dads interested in being a member of a dads group.
Reminiscent of the good old days of playing on a sports team, the article shares this wisdom…”It may sound tired, but dads get out of a playgroup what they put into it!” and concludes with Brown saying…”One of the joys of being a mother is connecting on a deep and personal way with other mothers. No one else has the level of understanding that a fellow mom has. Now, dads, who are staying home to raise their children, are finding the value in the same connections. And the children have fun as well!
If you are an involved dad who enjoys spending quality time with your kid(s) during the day…perhaps, now is the time to reach out and connect with other dads. Join NYC Dads meet up Group and become our 100th member!
