Talk to the Experts: NYC Dads!

May 6, 2011 by City Dads Group

A big thank you to Susan Hersh for highlighting two members of the NYC Dads Group in her interview series, Talk to the Experts. Susan approached us with a request for some Baby Boomer dads that she could film with their kids to support her interview with Donald Unger, author of Men Can. Lindsey and Gil impressed her so much, that she created a separate installment in her series to highlight the changing role of fathers.

We’ve been part of many media projects over the years, and most follow the same tired formula to tell the active dad story– dad in park pushing his kid on a swing, dad changing baby’s diaper, and without fail, a clip of Michael Keaton acting the fool in Mr. Mom.

Susan avoided all the stereotypes, allowing Lindsey and Gil to represent themselves, their families, our group, and Dads everywhere in a way that portrays the real caring, competent, and dedicated Dads that we see everyday.

Thank you to Susan, Lindsey, Gil for helping us to move the conversation forward.

That’s right! Men as Dads are so much more complex than we allow. Hurrah for Susan Hersh for highlighting these great Dads. More! More!
