Charity Walks, Runs Great Way to Take Baby Out into NYC

April 20, 2009 by APW

MS Walk across Brooklyn Bridge

water break on a charity walkThis past weekend was beautiful in NYC, and I participated in Walk MS, one of many charity walks aimed to create a world free of MS. We walked in honor of my brother-in laws’ wife, who has MS & our team successfully raised over $1,200. Our Team, including some family members, my wife and 9 month old baby completed the 6 mile course that starts at the Seaport, crosses over the Brooklyn Bridge & winds through Brooklyn Heights.

Originally, we were hesitant on bringing our baby with us because we thought it might be a hassle with the stroller, bumping into the crowd, feeding and nap schedules, and possible rain. However, with most things in NYC, taking your baby along for the adventure was easier than I anticipated and part of the fun. It was invigorating to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge and feel the wind blowing against you as you see the panoramic skyline views and the Statue of Liberty.
As the weather warms up and summer approaches, there are dozens of charity walks and runs in and around NYC. Don’t let having a new baby stop you from participating with them in these events and raising money for great causes. Take your stroller and your Baby Bjorn, or Ergo, or backpack, or sling, and have fun with sharing an NYC experience with your child!
