Super Bowl of Fatherhood Advertising

February 2, 2015 by Kevin McKeever

super bowl, dads, adsYour team succeeded in Super Bowl XLIX yesterday if it was Team Fatherhood.

Dads won big among TV ads run during Super Bowl XLIX Sunday. Toyota, Nissan and Dove Men+Care made notable major efforts to show the importance fathers play in their children’s lives all in effort to appeal to the “other half” of the household consumer demographic. For the low-down on all the dad ads and more, read 8 Bit Dad’s “Super Bowl XLIX: Dads Cover the Spread in Commercials” by Zach Rosenberg, co-organizer of our L.A. Dads Group. Zach, our resident dads-portrayed-in-ads experts, is also quoted in a January Ad Age article on the same subject.

Trevor Mulligan, City Dads Group, on Nightline
L.A. Dads Group co-organizer Trevor Mulligan appeared on ABC-TV’s Nightline to talk aboutthe Jay Cutler controversy.

The Dove Men+Care #RealStrength Super Bowl ad happens to feature another L.A. Dads Group co-organizer, Trevor Mulligan. The ad, an updated version of the brand’s “Real Dad Moments” Father’s Day ad from 2014, and Trevor play a part in a piece ABC-TV’s Nightline did earlier in the week on the hubbub over Chicago Bears’ quarterback Jay Cutler sending panicked texts to wife Kristin Cavallari when he was left alone with them. Trevor defends dads as competent caregivers while L.A. Dads Group members Sam Turner and Chris Lyans join him to prove the point in their actions.

(Disclosure: Dove Men+Care has been a supporter of some past City Dads Group efforts.)
