Today was an adventure!
Our stay-at-home dads play group descended on My Gym Lincoln Center this week located on 66th street on the Upper West side. My son swung on a zipline like Tarzan, hung like an Olympic gymnast from their suspended rings, attempted his first headstand, and had a blast “hanging around” with his buddies! This play space is top notch if you/your child are a risk taker. I must admit that having my 8 month old zoom across the gym on a zip line is something I only tried myself for the first time about two years ago. What’s next for him? bungee jumping! It was nice to have the freedom to float around to their numerous gym stations at your own pace and be assisted by kid friendly and knowledgeable staff. Our group of 12 dads were always being helped by at least two instructors: a good ratio compared to other play gyms! Another cool feature is their 5 minute separation time – the instructors dump out a ton of toys on the floor and kindly ask all of the dads to leave the area for true independent play time.
After the hour long adventure was over, they allowed us to hang out, talk, and change/feed our kids in their comfy lobby area. A time I look forward to because it allows me to share the experience with the other guys and discuss our kids most recent milestones.
Really impressive excursion with our dads group, and Jake napped like a rock star as soon as we left (bonus)! Another bonus was that our event today was free! My Gym Lincoln Center provides free demonstration classes. In fact, most gym, music, and kid play spaces that I have participated in New York City offer free demonstration classes.
