First, I try to stay off almost all fast food, but continue to get drawn in to Shake Shack on East 86th Street of the UES. They are fast, food is good quality, it doesn’t feel like fast food, and it has become a weekly bonding experience for lunch with my little guy. “Shhh, keep this low” – based on the logistics of how this Shack location was built, there is a side ramp that is wheel chair and stroller accessible vs. walking in through the front door. If you “stroll” in with the stroller, you almost automatically express over to the “C-Line” with zero-wait time instead of standing in the main line. One perk to having a baby/toddler!
Second, the UES Gymboree* Play & Learn on East 84th Street has been an enjoyable destination for my son & I since he was about 5-months old. After taking a trial class at Gymboree’s much more modern and new location down in Tribeca, it’s hard not to say, “wish my Gymboree was as nice as Tribeca.” Awesome news – Gymboree will be opening a replacement UES location scheduled some time in lat February. The move to this bigger (two floors!) and brighter (windows!) location, which can be conveniently found right around the corner from their current location.
Third, there is a new & innovative frozen yogurt chain popping up in NYC – just checked out the newest location of 16 Handles (yep, I miss the famous 80’s movie “candles” as well) on 2nd Ave. at 82nd Street. This place has self-serve yogurt machines where you pay based on weight and then you add a bunch of toppings…think make your own sundae! Check out TONY Kids scoop on 16 Handles.
Finally, a special thank you to MeetUp.com, the host of our NYC Dads Meet Up Group website. A few weeks ago, Meetup.com decided that they were going to run an ad campaign on numerous NYC Subways highlighting the diversity of their millions of meet up groups. They selected a handful of groups to be “poster children”…and wouldn’t you know, meetup.com selected our community of involved dads as one of the featured groups. They sent a photographer to one of our recent events to shoot a group photo that is being used for the ad. I haven’t seen one yet, but was told that the campaign has started running…so don’t be surprised if you are sitting on the subway, and see the mug shot of our dads group! Really cool!
