Families, fun and the 90s.
That was the scene for the PopTv red carpet event for Hollywood Darlings and Return of the Mac. Both shows premiere today April 12th on PopTv. The first show that debuts tonight is Hollywood Darlings. Pop’s new original comedy series turns the camera on real-life friends, which I learned they are all moms with different perspectives. These women who are former child stars grew up in the ’90s limelight: Jodie Sweetin (Full House, Fuller House), Christine Lakin (Step By Step) and Beverley Mitchell (7th Heaven). In this improvised comedy, they play exaggerated versions of themselves in their current Hollywood lives. With the support of one another, this girl squad can take on anything when it comes to parenting, marriage, friendship and revived careers in Hollywood. The first episode showcases many of the above mentioned details. Friends being friends and all that may happen.
When interviewing the cast of Hollywood Darlings, Jodie Sweetin mentioned how fun it is to be on a show with her best friends and see how each of them differ in parenting style and life. Yet long ago they met and their friendship has remained. Beverly Mitchell jokingly stated how some topics on the show were a bit much to handle, one being the continued use of profanity. All three actresses have a bond as moms, women and are venturing into this new show together. It is clear they do support each other but the common factor is the mention of their friendship.
Next on the Pop lineup is Return of the Mac. It’s an original scripted comedy series which stars boy-band heartthrob Joey McIntyre as a version of himself alongside his real-life family—wife Barrett and their three children, Griffin (8), Rhys (6) and Kira (5). In the episode I saw, Joey McIntyre embark on a hilarious quest to be taken seriously as a legit actor. He is thrown into the reluctant role of a talk-show host at a fledgling cable network called the Comfy Channel. He is joined by his often misguided manager and team played by a hysterical cast, including Adam Ray, Jamie Denbo, Katie Wee, Punam Patel and Jordan Black.
In asking Joey McIntyre, how he handles his career and parenting balance, he summarized with having a wife to help make it work. Her support in his career helps his children’s schedule, life and career balance out well. We even spoke about astro turf being recently put in his home. So Joey has his own daily life aside from the fun of his new show. A dad making his way and working hard for his family.
Overall, both shows are a laugh and a tongue-and-cheek look into Hollywood. There are some moments where you will see Joey McIntyre’s family. Jodie Sweetin will be placed in a room full of children. Plus all cast members have been in television before and this is a new look at their many other talents. Be sure to check out these new shows on PopTv.
