Enough with the isolation! The weather is warmer and I have been seeking more opportunities to get outside and burn some calories. This is the time of year that numerous causes raise funds by having walkathons, bike races, & charity runs in the local parks. I imagine it is the same in most cities around the U.S. This weekend is no exception. I will be strapping on my sneakers and greasing up the wheels of the stroller for a brisk 6-mile walk from South Street Seaport over the Brooklyn Bridge into Brooklyn Heights as I participate in the annual MS Walk.
This scenic walk enables me to get some exercise, bond with the family, take in some beautiful vistas, and raise some money for a worthy cause (including a terrible disease that affects one of my family members). If you haven’t already, now seems like an ideal time to sign up and participate in a local charity event! This sounded cool: The 2nd annual Run for the Wild event is scheduled for April 24, 2010. The Wildlife Conservation Society sponsors this run, walk, or stroll event (baby strollers are welcome) on a beautiful 5k course in the Bronx Zoo- spend the day with over 5,000 animals and help save tigers at the same time!
Outdoor events not your thing? Would it be cooler to sit in air conditioned movie theater chomping some popcorn? Well, you have the chance to meet such entertainment stars like Forest Whittaker, Ed Burns, Ice Cube, Kim Cattrel, Liev Schrieber, Helen Hunt, Colin Farrel, and tons of others as they attend their film’s screening at the Tribeca Film Festival, starts April 21st. It is still one of the best kept secrets in NYC with tix costing just $16 (a few bucks more than a regular film) that usually include a director Q&A as well as some of the film’s stars sitting in the audience with you. ESPN Sports films, highly touted documentary films, and a few big budget openings – a little something for everyone!
For the concert lovers, the Today Show announced their summer Toyota concert series line-up in Rockefeller Center. This FREE morning concert series kicks off their superstar lineup with Sting on May 14. I took my son to one of the shows last year and it was a blast!
