As a parent of a newly minted 3-year old, I have always kept to a rigid routine and schedule with naps and bedtime. For the most part, it has been successful for our family ... except with a 1 - 2:30 p.m. nap smack in the middle of the day, it makes our weekends tough to navigate with planning outings to see our friends. Oh boy! We move to the latest hot topic in parenting: pressure to potty train our children earlier and earlier! Check out this recent ABC Good Morning America segment featuring mom of three Elizabeth Hasselback and several New York City Moms. As a dad, I can't say that I find this to be a controversial topic worthy of the Potty Wars title. My son is 2 1/2 and enjoys going into his favorite poop spot and telling me to give him some privacy so he can take care of business. I watched him in the monitor throwing his balls all over the place and then neatly place all 20 of them in his bed = no nap.
+ + +For the past two years, my wife and I have been enjoying our sleep because our son was well sleep trained and spent most nights sound asleep in his crib from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. We did not consider what would happen when our son outgrows his crib and is no longer "quarantined" to a confined space ....
