Parents.TV, the website channel working with American Baby, Parents , Parents.com , and Family Circle caught up with a few of us from NYC Dads Group during November. The setting was the Elahi Garden Enrichment Center on the UES for some daddy & me yoga and playgroup time.
What was unique about this Parents.TV segment on Stay at Home Dads was that there were no hidden agendas…other than the awful in action shot above! Parents.TV were genuine in enabling a few of us stay-at-home-dads to have a platform to discuss our role in being involved with raising our children. We share some trials, tribulations, as well as successes of our role, in what Frank B. calls “the best job in the world!” This brief four minute segment, includes topics such as how we landed in our roles, most challenging parts of the job, differences between the conversations with at-home-dads vs. at-home-moms, and the unexpected pleasures.
The highlight for me was when Frank discussed milestones, admitting that “sometimes he doesn’t tell his wife he saw his daughter accomplish something on a particular day.” He waits for his wife to come home from work and notice it…like it was happening “fresh” for the very first time! Maybe some of us should take that page out of Frank’s book…
Please feel free to share your comments on the segment. Actually, to incentivize a few of you to comment on this segment…my wife & I have agreed to make a $10 donation to the Save the Children Foundation for aid in the Haiti Earthquake Relief…for each person that comments OR becomes a “Follower” (sign up easily on the lower right side of blog) to this blog today. This money will be matched by her company as well! thanks
Great spot Lance! Kudos to you and your wife for stepping up to the plate with the Haiti donation. It would be great to get the group somehow more involved with charitable causes in the future. I’d just like to point out that this segment was filmed at Elahi Garden Enrichment Center on 65th and Lex where some of us get together every Tuesday at 3:00…it’s a great time and I hope more dads join us…all are welcome!
Great stuff. I too occasionally keep afternoon accomplishments to myself until they are displayed later for the “first time” when Mom gets home. It is the best job in the best world. Time management is the toughest factor because when you do it well, nothing beats a happy little one when Mom gets home.
We too have contributed to the relief efforts and glad to see another contribution is being made with my comment on the actions of our great dads group.
Great job, guys! Lance, I am always following even if I am not commenting. Today’s challenge is great. Very generous of you and your wife! Thanks!
great job guys and great idea lance for the fundraising effort. i agree with evan in trying to make a difference on the fundraising/charitable front in the future.
best of luck in this effort. i hope you get plenty of comments. haiti could use all the help it can get right now.
nice piece! Always following too, great effort on the Haiti front, we really need to step up.
This was outstanding. All three of you did a terrific job. This is one of the best representation s of life as a stay-at-home dad that I have seen.
Thanks very much. It was so natural to see everyone in their “new” roles. I enjoyed it a ton!
Nice piece, Lance. Even though I am not at home full-time, I totally agree with you on time management being one of the toughest things to grapple with. It seems like there is not enough time in the day to get everything done.
Excellent outcome! I have passed this on to a few dads! Very generous donation idea!
nice piece – wish we had made it that day (got caught in too much traffic…)
I am going to try and remember Frank’s tip and put it into use soon!
Wonderful segment. Hope all of us follow you in your concern for the people of Haiti.
