NYC Dads Group at the New Parent Expo

September 29, 2011 by City Dads Group

The NYC Dads Group is a community of dads that believe that fathers can be just as nurturing (or distant), capable (or inept), and confident (or scared) as mothers. We also know that when a dad is engaged through pregnancy, birth, and the first weeks of his child’s lives, he sets the foundation for a life as an active and involved parenting partner. With this in mind, we are very proud to sponsor the Dads Lounge at the New Parents Expo on October 15 and 16 at Pier 92 in New York City.

The Dads Lounge will be a place for fathers and mothers to meet dads, thinkers, and experts as we consider what it means to be a good dad in the 21st century.
On Saturday morning, we’ll start the day on the main stage with a panel discussion about the opportunities we have to redefine fatherhood and the barriers that stand in the way. Panelists include:
Jim Higley (moderator) is a father of three and the Bobblehead Dad-– a writer, speaker, radio show host, and cancer warrior.
Greg Bishop is the founder of Dads Adventure, which sponsors the nationally acclaimed Boot Camp for New Dads, and is the author of Crash Course for New Dads: Tools, Checklists & Cheat Sheets and Hit the Ground Crawling.
Doug French is a writer and publisher of his personal blog “Laid-Off Dad” and co-founder of the Dad 2.0 Summit
Lance Somerfeld is an at-home dad and founder of the NYC Dads Group, a community that gives involved fathers an opportunity to socialize and support each other as they navigate parenthood.

On Sunday, we’ll continue discussions in the Dads Lounge and on the Main Stage. We’ve organized an afternoon panel discussion that will explore the work-life conflict fathers andmothers feel and some ways we can be the parents we want to be while still being serious about our careers. Panelists include:

Matt Schneider (moderator) is an at-home father of two boys and founding member and Co-Organizer for the NYC Dads Group, a community that gives involved fathers an opportunity to socialize and support each other as they navigate parenthood.
Jessica DeGroot is a mother of two and president and founder of ThirdPath Institute, an organization dedicated to educating fathers, mothers and employees at all stages in their careers to create work/life solutions where each person can be successful at work while also having plenty of time and energy for their families and other life commitments.
Dana Glazer is a work-at-home father of three, a filmmaker, and director of Evolution of Dad, a documentary that explores the changing role of fathers in America.
Sean Romanoff is a working father that has shared care of his two children with his wife for many years.

Panelists for both workshops will continue the conversation with a series of roundtable discussions in the Dads Lounge. Stay tuned for the full schedule.
