Here is a post from very active NYC Dad, Lindsey H., about our NYC Dads Group’s recent experience at Imagine Swimming. My sons have taken classes at Imagine and I appreciate their method and philosophy. Thanks to all of the new dads Lars and Casey for inviting us to experience their program! — L.S.
Imagine Swimming is another of those spots that you could walk by a thousand times and never know existed, but once found is like entering a whole new world in the city. The notion of taking my 2-year-old son for a swimming lesson the first week of December was a trip itself, but this clean, well-appointed facility on Harrison Street in Tribeca made it all seem logical. The young, enthusiastic staff made all the dads and kids very welcome and the locker room had plenty of space for all of us.
We split into two groups of older and younger (pre- and post-18 months) and the instruction itself was game and song-based to make it fun for the kids and easy to remember. I was amazed at how quickly and naturally most of the kids took to the water and how even the more wary ones (like mine), enjoyed it thoroughly and didn’t want to get out of the pool when the hour was up.
I learned to swim very young – so young that I don’t remember it – but I’m pretty sure it can’t have been as much fun as this was.
Imagine Swimming has locations in Tribeca, the Financial District, the Lower East Side, Chelsea, Gramercy Park, Midtown, Upper East Side, Brooklyn Heights, and Fort Greene.
