This Is My Brave, Inc., a national organization dedicated to igniting a positive conversation about mental illness, recently announced it will be coming to New York City this fall and a NYC Dads Group member will head its production team.
Stay-at-home father Lorne Jaffe, a contributor to this blog who has been diagnosed with clinical depression and general anxiety disorder, will lead the effort to recruit talent for This is My Brave’s New York City show, scheduled for Oct. 4 at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. NYC Dads Group will serve as a media sponsor for the show.
“I need to help others understand that you can be courageous even if you suffer mental illness. So I decided to take the next step … arguably the biggest step of my life,” Jaffe said in an announcement from This is My Brave about the NYC show. “It’s time for me to be braver than I ever had and to help people reach the same level.”
Auditions for this show, featuring people sharing stories of living with mental illness through essay, poetry, and original music, are scheduled for August 18, 20 and August 22. You may sign up for auditions at thisismybrave.org/auditions.
