New Ways Dads Carve Out Time For Their Kids: “Wave at the Bus Story”

June 12, 2011 by City Dads Group

It never ceases to amaze me how modern dads are carving out more time to spend with their family.  My close friend, a divorced dad, is supposed to see his children every other weekend and each Wednesday night.  He could “settle” for that.  Instead, he attends pediatric appointments, all sporting events, and even his childrens’ haircuts so he gets t osee them much more frequently and be an integral part of their lives.

The most creative story of active and involved fatherhood that I have come across lately (thanks to the three different dads that pinged me with this story) is about a caring and bizarre dad out in Utah.  Imagine how a fifteen year-old teenager must feel when boarding a school bus, and DAD is in a costume waving to you as you pass by with your friends on the school bus. This viral video is making Dale Price a candidate to be one of the most embarrassing fathers in America. Price has spent the past school year (170 days worth) waving at his high school son’s school bus every day while dressed in costumes as a lampshade, Elvis, Priate, and Santa, just to name a few.  Interestingly, he has kept a blog with photos to document the entire experience.  Curious to see what his plans are for next school year when his son becomes a Junior?
