Recently, a journalist asked me, what is the secret to the success of the growth of your active and involved community of dads in New York City? I wouldn’t say there is only one secret ingredient – there are several.
However, the chief component of setting up and growing the NYC Dads Group was the initial concept that we wanted to have a strong web presence with the goal to get dads with their kids physically together with other dads and their children in the New York Metro area- our winning solution: Meetup.com.
Check out this informative and introspective cover-story that was published in a recent copy of The Epoch Times: Real Meetups in a Digital World by Ivan Pentchoukov. Founded in 2001 by Scott Heiferman, Meetup’s mission “is to bring people together by making it possible for anyone to organize a meetup or join an existing group. At 9.8 million users in 45,000 cities, Meetup is a global entity with a local mission—to help people connect, first online and then in person.” It’s not surprising that thousands of parenting groups use meetup to form, organize, socialize, network, and build friendships…and that includes dads groups that have been sprouting up in growing numbers across the U.S. Check out the article and consider forming or joining a parenting group – it’s a worthwhile experience.
