We are in the midst of Autism Awareness month. Our friend, Christopher Astacio, father of two, recently found out that his two-year old daughter, Cristina Astacio, was diagnosed with a mild form of autism. The Astacio family was featured in the USA Today video above. According to new government statistics, 1 in 88 of children are diagnosed with Austism, a significant increase in the past few years. The increase is believed to come from increased awareness and better/earlier diagnosis. Like the Astacio family, the largest increases have been found in Hispanic children.
The local WALK NOW FOR AUTISM SPEAKS in NYC is scheduled for June 3, 2012. The walk provides parents the opportunity to walk to raise awareness as well as helping kids like Cristina with a financial donation. You can donate to Cristina’s Team to assist them in achieving their fundraising goal here.
