This isn’t the only place in City Dads Group nation to find great, informative writing on being a father in the modern world. Our NYC and Chicago outposts also have active blogs featuring the works of those members in those metropolitan areas. Here’s a quick look at some of the great pieces you will find on those sites:
Chicago Dads Group Editor Eric Bennion looks beyond his favorite team’s lackluster playoff appearance to explain the “5 Things Watching the Chicago Cubs with my Grandpa Taught Me About Being a Dad”:
“I spent a lot of time with my grandpa centered around baseball, watching it and talking about it,” Eric writes. “Probably the greatest memory about baseball with him was standing out in front of our house playing catch. We’d talk about everything and nothing, and sometimes not at all. They were hours that I’ll cherish because that was one of the many ways he showed interest in me.
NYC Dads Group member Christopher Persley admits “My Daughter Will Be a Better Person Than I Am” in a candid, beautiful piece:
“To me, fatherhood has become enjoying taking time to watch my child do things that she couldn’t do months ago. It’s become treasuring the person that she is becoming and knowing she might just have a positive effect on the lives of those around her,” he writes. “It’s become acknowledging that this at home dad who grew up without a father might just be doing something right.
In “Being Present,” Chicago Dads Group member Terrass Misher writes about the best (and simplest) advice he ever received about being a father:
“As often as we can, the wife and I take an hour and turn off all of the electronics in the home, especially cell phones. We use this time to play with blocks, toy soldiers, draw, paint, paste, build, role play, go for a walk, bike ride, to the park, or anything that involves us connecting. This one on one time is so important to your child’s development and it’s something that you don’t want to leave out of your relationship with your kids,” he writes.
