Our own Dad co-organizer Eli Lipmen wrote in the Jewish Journal that the City of LA should lead on paid family leave with a policy that covers 100% of workers salary for the time they take off to take care of their newborn. Read and share his piece on why we need paid family leave and how Los Angeles can become the most kid-friendly big city in the United States https://jewishjournal.com/columnist/301321/los-angeles-should-lead-on-paid-family-leave/ … [Read more...]

How to Survive L.A. Traffic with Kids: Podcasts!
Driving in traffic, especially Los Angeles traffic, sucks. But driving in L.A. traffic with kids is the worst. And I had to do a lot of it over the past few weeks. I used to think you really only have these options: Listen to their music (usually Katy Perry on repeat). Sing. Play “I spy.” Ignore them. But then we found the amazing world of kids’ podcasts. Not only do great kids’ podcasts keep your children quiet, focused and entertained during the long car trips we endure her in L.A. but we almost always learn something new about the world. Our favorite kids’ … [Read more...]

And come back next week for the next in the series on the author's most "L.A." parenting experience. Where is your ultimate go-to spot for am L.A. play date (weekday or weekend)? My go to spot for a play date is the Japanese Garden in Van Nuys. There is so much to see there, and yet you think you’re no longer in LA! There is also an adjacent park area to picnic and allow the children to … [Read more...]
Go! To the Movies
Coming this summer... Oh wait it's here! Looking for a great family friendly movie to see this weekend? This is a movie everyone in the family will be laughing! My boys have all kinds of shows they watch most of which I do not watch with them. Except for Teen Titans Go - a follow-up to the popular "Teen Titans" series takes a more comedic look at the superheroes, showing what life is like for the teens when their capes come off. Funny things happen to Robin, Starfire, Raven, Beast Boy and Cyborg between saving the world and being regular teens, living together without adult … [Read more...]
Happy Father’s Day!
Happy Father’s Day Sunday 8:30am: I am making a bagel while putting away clean dishes, waiting for my coffee to be done brewing and singing along with Pearl Jam. My boys are watching Larvas on Netflix in the living room and my wife is back asleep in bed (she was probably up at 5am with Mason). Miles turns 8 this Saturday. This is my 8th Fathers Day?!?! This is fatherhood at it’s best I am not bragging, but more enjoying this parenting bliss that can go as fast as it comes. The first full week of summer had a bit of a rough beginning but ended amazing. I feel like I am standing … [Read more...]
Will my kids ever drive?
I should ask will they ever need to drive? Technology has been advancing at such a rapid pace that in 10 years instead of getting a driver’s license or having a casual conversation with the Uber or Lyft driver my boys will probably call an automated car through an AI device installed in everyone’s house. I know there are many people that haven’t ever driven nor ever will need to. In certain cities, such as New York, it is not a big deal. In other cities, such as Los Angeles, it is necessary to be able to cross town (As the song goes, nobody walks in Los Angeles). By the way, LA is doing a … [Read more...]
Parents Love LA! Blog Series Part 2 (Favorite Place to Eat)
This is the second post in a four-part series on why parents love living in LA. Check out last week's post and come back next week for the next in the series on the ultimate go-to spot for play dates. Where is your favorite kid-friendly place to eat (on any budget)? I’ve always felt that kid-friendly was a matter of opinion (unless the establishment has a rule against kids, then screw ‘em). We enjoy a variety of places, but we’re suckers for stuff like Golden Road Brewery where the food is good, there is root beer on tap and the kids can play ping-pong or watch some soccer. We’re also … [Read more...]
