Friend? Foe? Father? Hero!
What is your father to you? Who is that father figure in your life? How are you fathering through your parenting journey? These are all questions that may be at the forefront of your mind being a father. I know they are for me. The relationships in our lives shape who we are as parents and adults. Dove Men+Care if focusing on ‘fatherhood’ and what is means to you. Father’s Day is fast approaching; so this is great. this year their Real Strength campaign is “Real Care makes a dad a hero”.
Dove Men+Care has asked dads around the country, “What is your super hero power?”. Their approach is through their current #RealStrength message.
My response was, “I’m a super hero when I whip up home cooked meals from scratch fast and adapt to what I have on hand when needed.” Here are a few others from other dads:
I feel all of this has made dads think of what it means to be a family. What it means to be a father. What the true realistic definition of a ‘hero’ is to each of us. Those things vary. Each of us has our own take or opinion of that. What I guess or infer is that being the parent, our child(ren) need us to be the main example. Making fatherhood a normative topic. Dads involved. Fathers fathering.
There has been a long antiquated vernacular of dads being the ‘sitter’ or the one ‘left’ with the duty of parenting. I have learned from this group that dads are being dads. They want to be involved. They want to dress their daughter for the dance recitals. Dads want to style their daughter’s hair & nurture critical thinkers too. Dads want to teach their sons to stand up for what they love to do. Dads want to be at home dads. Dads want to be there even after a long day at work. Dads want to be dads.
The movement is in full force. The parenting handbook is being re-written or just tossed out to make room for a new one. Nonetheless, ‘fatherhood’ is a big movement. Dove Men+Care is celebrating fatherhood, our heroes and the heroes in each of us. Join the movement.
Here is Dove Men+Care’s newest #realStrength video campaign that showcases fathers being the heros in their child(rens) lives.
