Humorist James Breakwell on Surviving Zombies with Kids in Tow

October 16, 2017 by Kevin McKeever

If you think it’s tough raising kids nowadays, just wait until you have to do it while fighting off the undead.

That’s the premise of the funny new book, Only Dead on the Inside: A Parent’s Guide to Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse  by James Breakwell, the mastermind by the popular and funny Twitter account about his family life, @XplodingUnicorn.

“It’s a parenting book with a thin veneer of zombies over the top,” Breakwell tells Whit Honea of our L.A. Dads Group, the guest host for our latest edition of The Modern Dads Podcast. “You’re kids are awful now. Let’s see how awful they will be if things are trying to eat them. That’s kind of the basic question I applied to every situation and the book kind of wrote itself from there.”

The podcast is a followup to a published interview Honea did with Breakwell for City Dads Group.

Breakwell is a professional comedy writer, married father of four girls under the age of 8, and caretaker to a dog and a teacup pig (don’t worry, Breakwell fans, they all get time during the podcast). His Twitter feed went viral in April 2016 and since he has gathered many accolades, including being named Closer Magazine’s 2016 Blogger Dad of the Year, and more than 980,000 Twitter followers.

In addition to his Twitter feed and website, Breakwell has written articles for Reader’s Digest, The Federalist, and AskMen. He has been a guest multiple times on HLN’s The Daily Share.
