At-home fathers looking for parenting advice or just hoping to connect with others like themselves will have a chance to do both at the annual national at-home dad convention, recently announced to take place Sept. 26-28, 2019, in Minneapolis, Minn.

HomeDadCon 2019, as the event is known, will also be a chance for our Twin Cities Dads Group to show off its hometown. The 450-member City Dads Group chapter will play a big role in organizing and hosting the event held by the nonprofit National At-Home Dad Network.

“We’re really excited to be working with the NAHDN on the convention,” said Chris Brandenburg, a co-organizer of the Twin Cities Dads Group and the At-Home Dad Network’s chairperson for HomeDadCon 2019. “We want to bring the dads community together for a weekend to reaffirm, recharge and reconnect in Minnesota.”

HomeDadCon, entering its 24th year, brings fathers who are their family’s primary caregiver together for professional development as dads who embrace parenting as their most important job, to network with other active and involved dads, and also for a well deserved chance to relax.  The event usually includes guest speakers and panels on various parenting topics such as education, physical/mental health and technology use for children

Conference tickets recently went on sale online at the HomeDadCon 2019 website with prices ranging from $175 to $195. The three-day event will be held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Minneapolis Downtown. Room reservations can also be made through the website.

Holding HomeDadCon 2019 in Minneapolis moves the event toward the geographical center of the United States for the first time in five years. Since Denver played host in 2014, the event has been held in major cities on either the East (Orlando, Fla.; Raleigh, N.C.) or West Coast (Portland, Ore.).

Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota and, when combined with its neighbor and “twin,” state capital St. Paul, forms the 16th largest metropolitan area in the United States with about 3.6 million people, according to U.S. Census data.

In addition to being home to Twin Cities Dads Group, the area is also the birthplace of Fathers Eve, a national movement to have dads celebrate their role as fathers together the night before Father’s Day. Fathers Eve, marking its eighth year in 2019, is the brainchild of John Francis, the other co-organizer of the Twin Cities Dads Group.

“Having a good working partnership with City Dads Group and Fathers Eve is going to be key to making this event a positive experience for our attendees,” Brandenburg said.

National At-Home Dad Network is dedicated to providing advocacy, community, education and support to families where fathers are the primary caregivers of their children. It’s stated purpose is to empower fathers and champion a culture that recognizes them as capable and competent parents.

Depending on the data source, somewhere between 160,000 and 2 million exist in the United States – a number steadily on the rise in the past few decades as attitudes and gender roles in the workplace and the home have evolved.

DISCLOSURE: City Dads Group has been a longtime sponsor of the HomeDadCon and a frequent partner of the National At-Home Dad Network.
