With the pro football season nearing its end, you’ll be seeing plenty of highlight reels from the past year but none quite like the ones our friends at Dove Men+Care made featuring two NFL stars.
The makers of grooming goodies for dudes and dads (full disclosure: Dove Men+Care is a longtime supporter/sponsor of City Dads Group) have a new advertising campaign that challenges the notion that feats of speed, power and agility on the gridiron are what athletes treasure most.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer and Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson are featured in two-minute “Real Strength Highlight Reels,” each showcasing the off-field accomplishments that make them proud. For example, Nelson worked as a substitute teacher at his child’s school, and Palmer is shown helping his son recover from leg surgery and getting his daughter ready for school.
“I go to work as a football player but God put me here on Earth to be a father,” Palmer says near the end of his highlight reel.
The new campaign follows in the footsteps of past ads for Dove Men+Care on Father’s Day 2014 and 2015, and in last year’s Super Bowl ad that highlighted modern dads, professional athletes or regular Joes. All show being an active part of your child’s life instead of just a breadwinner is what it really means to be a father and strong man. This tact follows a 2014 Dove Men+Care research study that found 75 percent of men say such a shift in masculinity has had a positive impact on society, according to the company’s news release.
