It is tough to navigate around the streets of NYC this week without noticing the sign “Fashion’s Night Out – September 10, 2010″ of many of the upscale retail stores.
What is Fashion’s Night Out?
This is an initiative conceived last year with Vogue’s Anna Wintour & Mayor Bloomberg to give a spark plug to the Fashion Industry and infuse more money via more traffic and customers spending $$. Tonight, over 1,000 retail stores in New York City will keep their doors open from 6pm – 11pm with the hopes that customers will come in to enjoy cocktails, wine, champagne, hours devours, and cool entertainment (in the form of concerts, dj’s spinning, fashion designer appearances & A/B-list celebs on-hand)….in the hopes that people will buy some of their products. It’s amazing at how many different events are happening at the major retailers like Saks, Bloomies, Barneys, Bergdorfs as well as the smaller, trendy shops in your local hoods. Interestingly, other major U.S. cities (Boston, L.A., etc.) as well as fashion capitals abroad like London, Paris, & Milan are all participating in this event on the same day!
So, if you are taking a stroll with your family on this beautiful evening down Madison Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Columbus circle, SoHo, Brooklyn or beyond, be sure to grab a beverage and join the party as all of these stores remain open until the wee hours.
