On April 2nd, Dallas Dads Group was smack-dab in the middle of the DFW Family Expo. We went to be a part of the Expo’s four faceted Shop-Play-Learn-Discover experience and to let all of the dads there know that Dallas Dads Group is a resource available to them. We love that the expo is an affordable and charitable event, with 100% of the $5 entry fee going directly to the Ronald McDonald House’s local operations in North Texas. It’s also packed with different activities for kids, and they’re all included with the admission price…no tickets or wristbands to buy.
The day started bright and early for us with two missions: put the finishing touches on our Dads Lounge booth and help cut promos for the event with Fox 4 news. The first promo came out well, and as far as the second one…lets just say that we don’t think that a reporter could ever conduct an interview about princess tea parties and trampolines while standing in a petting zoo and receiving a massage live on air anywhere else except the DFW Family Expo.
Once the promos were out of the way, we focused on our booth. We had group members on hand to help give dads unfamiliar with our group an idea of what we’re about (thanks Casey, Sterling, Tim, Andy, Austin, and Nate!), a drawing contest for kids, and a train table, because what small kid doesn’t love a good train table? We also had seats for dads to sit and chat, and each child who visited our booth got a sticker, because if there’s one thing kids might love more than train tables, it’s stickers.
Our drawing contest was entitled “Why I Love My Dad.” Each child who visited our booth was offered the chance to draw a picture with that as the theme. Each drawing doubled as an entry into the contest, generously sponsored by Britax. Thanks to them, we were able to pick a random winner to receive a free carseat of the winner’s choice. As for the drawings, they were so adorable that we put together a slideshow to show them off:
In the aftermath of the expo, we were so excited about how it went that we’ve already recommitted for next year. If you came out, we know you’ll be wanting to come out again, and if not, we’ll remind you when it gets closer so that you won’t miss out this time.
