Welcome to Dallas Dads Group

February 23, 2016 by David Kepley 3 Comments

David Kepley and Family

Welcome to Dallas Dads Group, we are glad you have found us. I am a father of two young boys and we live in Waxahachie. My wife and I moved from Illinois in 2009 to the great state of Texas to be closer to family and find more affordable housing than we could find in Chicago. Due to our work schedules, we made the decision for me to stay at home with our children and take on the primary caretaker role. Months turned into years and one of my greatest difficulties was finding a place to take my boys to interact with other kids and I could find some adult conversation. Every dads' group I found … [Read more...]

5 Tips for New Dads

January 29, 2018 by Jeff Tepper Leave a Comment

A new dad and baby

While I'm hardly a parenting expert, as a co-organizer for Dallas Dads Group, I sometimes get asked for tips for new dads.  So without further ado, here are my five tips I'd give to any new dad: Don't strive for perfection when good is good enough. As parents, we want the absolute best for our children. We want to feel good about our parenting and we want to portray to others that we have this down. Seeing other seemingly perfect parents on social media doesn’t help either. The truth is this: we all have bad days and we all make mistakes.  They key is to learn from them.  Don't fall into the … [Read more...]

Plum Organics and Giving Tuesday 2017

January 11, 2018 by Sterling Noelck Leave a Comment

Dallas Dads Group Teams up with Plum Organics for Giving Tuesday Giving Tuesday is a global day of outreach on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. The premise is to start the holiday season in a meaningful way by inspiring people to collaborate with non-profit organizations and give back in their local communities. For the second year in a row, Plum Organics partnered with Dallas Dads Group to target child hunger in North Texas.  Plum Organics generously donated an entire pallet of baby food to Hope Supply Co.  Members of Dallas Dads Group volunteered to sort and package the food so it could be … [Read more...]

The DFW Sports Scene Beyond the Majors

Dr. Pepper Ballpark, home of the Frisco RoughRiders

September 6th 2017 Note: I've updated this post to include my own experiences with four teams; the Texas Marshals, the Texas Legends, the Dallas Wings, and the Dallas Sidekicks, as well as the annual Frisco College Baseball Classic. I also want to highlight the benefits of getting Pogo Pass*, which gets you into several RoughRiders, Wings, Legends, and Revolution games each year, as well as many other DFW area family attractions. If you go to more than one game a year, the pass will be very cost effective for your family. If you're a sports fan like me, you're probably also raising your … [Read more...]

A Morning of Fun With WaterWipes

August 2, 2017 by Jeff Tepper Leave a Comment

Disclosure: Dallas Dads Group partnered with WaterWipes for this campaign. Dallas Dads Group strives to provide chances for dads and their kids to come together and do something fun. Fortunately, when the summer heat is on in the DFW Metroplex, we have Play Street Museum, a great chain of indoor kid oriented playspaces. Thanks to WaterWipes -- the world’s purest baby wipes -- we were able to book one for a private meetup for our members. We packed Plano’s Play Street museum with 19 dads and 25 children to enjoy its “great outdoors” theme, complete with several kid-sized cabins, a … [Read more...]

Book Review: The More You Hustle, The Luckier You Get

May 10, 2017 by Jeff Tepper 1 Comment

cover of the book The More You Hustle The Luckier You Get

Much like the term “parentpreneur”, the book “The More You Hustle, the Luckier You Get” by James Oliver Jr. can be thought of as the joining of two themes.  James’ story about his life and family, although far from over, could be a book unto itself.  Likewise, the knowledge he shares about what he’s learned creating and developing his company, WeMontage, could also be a book unto itself.  But when combined, the sum of the two is much greater than the parts, and this is the primary reason that “The More You Hustle, the Luckier You Get” works so well. Right out of the gate, James defines … [Read more...]

Super Times at Sci-Tech!

February 13, 2017 by Jeff Tepper Leave a Comment

A little girl blowing a huge bubble.

Housed in an industrial building that looks ordinary from the outside is the not at all ordinary Sci-Tech Discovery Center in Frisco.  The museum has both full-time features and seasonal exhibits that rotate every few months.  Parking is free, and the cost is very reasonable at $8 for those 3-64, with discounts for seniors, teachers, and military personnel.  Family memberships are also available. On Saturday February 4th, seven dads from Dallas Dads Group took our kids to spend about two hours at Sci-Tech learning and playing. It's a Nano World! The special feature exhibit on display was … [Read more...]

fodada international women's self defense day graphic

Here's a rarity: a group whose purpose is to bring dads together for events is promoting a series of international events that dads are NOT invited to. It's a very important one too.  This will be the 5th year that our friends at fodada embark on a massive endeavor to organize women's self defense classes in as many U.S. and international cities as possible. This program aims to raise awareness about protecting women around the globe, and to promote the importance of empowerment.  As dads and men, we care deeply about the safety of the women in our community.  When City Dads Group was asked … [Read more...]

Movember

Movember Graphic

Last year, my older son shed a tear when I told him I was going to shave my Movember mustache. I asked him why and he said, “Because it’s awesome.” There is no doubt in the moments you know you’ve succeeded as a parent. I told him his mother disagreed with his mustache stance and he would have to talk to her about it. “Call her,” he said. I was shocked at his decisiveness and that in his 5 years of life he had picked this particular topic to take a stand on. Who was I to judge? So I dialed and he pleaded to my wife’s voice-mail to retain his father’s … [Read more...]

A Guide to Dallas Area Fall Festivals

October 17, 2016 by Jeff Tepper Leave a Comment

A fall season themed display.

Despite the fact that we’re still having high temperatures in the 80’s, late fall is here, and that means it’s fall festival time.  I hear the weather will even start cooperating with us later in the week.  I've never seen more organizations offering fall festivals than we have this year.  So whether you’re looking for a smaller neighborhood thing, or the biggest one North Texas has to offer, here are some suggestions for things to get out and do with the kiddos.  Click on the headline of each event for more info from the official website. 1) Pumpkins on the Plaza - For those near the … [Read more...]
