Dads Lounge Events at New Parents Expo

We’ve finalized our full schedule of events for the New Parents Expo. Join us for two awesome panels on the main stage and hourly discussions in the Dads Lounge on October 15 and 16 at Pier 92 in NYC.

Saturday, October 15
10:30–11:15 – The New Definition of “Dad” (Main Stage)
Modern dads are much more active in their children’s lives than fathers of previous generations. Many dads are reading parenting manuals, attending medical appointments, and volunteering at school. Fathers have the opportunity to be just as competent, nurturing, and caring as their partners, but many barriers stand in the way. This panel will explore the new definition of fatherhood and what it means to be the best dads we can be. Panelists include:
Jim Higley (moderator) is the Bobblehead Dad-– a writer, speaker, radio show host, cancer warrior, and most importantly, “Dad” to three kids
Greg Bishop is the founder of Dads Adventure, which sponsors the nationally acclaimed Boot Camp for New Dads, and is the author of Crash Course for New Dads: Tools, Checklists & Cheat Sheets and also Hit the Ground Crawling.
Doug French is a writer and publisher of his personal blog “Laid-Off Dad” and co-founder of the Dad 2.0 Summit
Lance Somerfeld is an at-home dad and founder of the NYC Dads Group, a community that gives involved fathers an opportunity to socialize and support each other as they navigate parenthood.

Dads Lounge discussion led by Adam Cohen, founder, DadaRocks
1:00 – 1:30 – Dads To The Rescue! Moms Aren’t Happy and We Need Help.
Dads Lounge discussion led by Greg Bishop, founder of Dads Adventure, which sponsors the nationally acclaimed Boot Camp for New Dads, and is the author of Crash Course for New Dads: Tools, Checklists & Cheat Sheets and also Hit the Ground Crawling.

Dads Lounge discussion led by entrepreneurial, work-from-home mom, Lisa Duggan, and freelance journalist and stay-at-home-father of three, Steve Berger, the co-creators and publishers of The Parent du Jour, an online book about contemporary parenthood. 
4:00 – 4:30 – Dads are Dropping Dollars Too
Dads Lounge discussion led by Doug French, a writer and publisher of his personal blog “Laid-Off Dad” and co-founder of the Dad 2.0 Summit.
Sunday, October 16
11:00 – 11:30– Becoming the Best Dad You Can Be
Dads Lounge discussion with John Carr, a fathering specialist based in NYC.  His 2010 book, “Becoming a Dad: The First Three Years” was published by Sterling. John is a father of three and a psychotherapist in private practice.
1:00 – 1:30  – Dads Supporting Moms during Breastfeeding
Dads Lounge discussion with Erica Lyon, a pregnancy, birth and parenting educator for over 15 years, author of the Big Book of Birth, and consulting director at Tribeca Parenting.
2:00 – 2:45 – Can New Parents Make Work Work? (Main Stage)
Several new studies and numerous articles have highlighted that fathers have something in common with mothers, a conflict between work and family. This panel will explore the reasons behind the conflict, the impact on new parents, and some potential ways to be the parents you want to be while still being serious about your career.
Matt Schneider (moderator) is a father of two boys and founding member and Co-Organizer for the NYC Dads Group, a community that gives involved fathers an opportunity to socialize and support each other as they navigate parenthood.
Jessica DeGroot – Jessica DeGroot is president and founder of ThirdPath Institute, an organization dedicated to educating fathers, mothers and employees at all stages in their careers to create work/life solutions where each person can be successful at work while also having plenty of time and energy for their families and other life commitments.
Dana Glazer is a work-at-home father of three, a filmmaker, and director of Evolution of Dad, a documentary that explores the changing role of fathers in America.
Sean Romanoff is a working father that has shared care of his two children with his wife for many years.
3:00 – 3:30 – Creating a Parenting Partnership
Dads Lounge discussion led by Jessica DeGroot, president and founder of ThirdPath Institute, an organization dedicated to educating fathers, mothers and employees at all stages in their careers to create work/life solutions where each person can be successful at work while also having plenty of time and energy for their families and other life commitments.
4:00 – 4:30 – Book Reading: Fathermucker
Dads Lounge discussion led by Greg Olear, the author of Fathermucker(Harper, 2011). The novel concerns a day in the life of a stay-at-home dad; he describes it as “Ulysses by way of Us Weekly.”  He is the senior editor of The Nervous Breakdown and the founding editor of Fathermucker: The Blog (fathermucker.com)
