The film festival for children and teens, formerly held in the New York City boroughs, will make its groundbreaking programming available to families nationwide. As a City Dads member/friend, you can receive a discount on admission.
New York International Children’s Film Festival, or NYICFF for short, is one of the largest and most influential family movie events in North America. Now in its third decades, the festival is a qualifying event for movies to be selected for Oscar nominations. Each year, it offers thoughtful, intelligent programming from all over the globe for children ages 3 to 18.
This year’s lineup of animated and live action movies runs online from March 5 to 14. It includes 14 feature films, seven short film programs, and live filmmaker Q&As. You can find the full program at https://nyicff.org/festival/.

The 2021 lineup reflects the festival’s mission to present films that celebrate the intricacies and importance of representation and cultural identity, spanning topics and continents. This year’s selection places a particular focus on young people who connect with the past to shape their futures. They include a magical realist family drama in the Curaçao countryside (Buladó), a land battle in the Mohawk Nation of Quebec (Beans), time-traveling preteens 70 years apart (The Fantastic Journey of Margot and Marguerite), an ecowarrior cat spirit (The Legend of Hei) and much more.
