Editor’s Note: Last week, a fleet of active members from NYC Dads Group and local dad-bloggers were “fighting” on the streets of New York City. The virtual ass-kicking was all part of a dads night out event where dads faced off with each other to kick the tires on a new battling robot from TOMY, Battroborg. Check out the play-by-play action described in this guest post by Christopher Persley.

It was time for some friendly competition the other night when a collective group of fathers from NYC Dads Group and local dad bloggers met up at Chelsea Piers and boarded a GameTruck to hang out, play loads of video games, and try out Battroborg’s battle robots.
The night featured some “heated” Battroborg competition between several of the dads. Thankfully, the only things hurt and knocked to the ground were the battling robots. Battroborg by TOMY, “is the first battling micro robot brand of its kind, leveraging advanced motion-control technology in combination with perennially popular robot and and combat action.”
In fact, the buzz and smack talking hit a climax when Adam Cohen of DadaRocks squared off with Drew Bennett of BenSpark for the title match.
Check out this awesome video from the event produced by NYC Dads Group member, Fred Masson:
I had the opportunity to successfully handle a Battroborg battle-bot. After a brief learning curve, I was having a blast, pummeling all robot comers in my wake. In addition to being able to check out the Battroborg’s before they hit the market this fall, dads played a number of video games including MMA, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, NBA 2K13, and the newest Madden, sitting in smooth and sleek leather seats on the GameTruck. It was exciting to have some down time, without our little ones in tow, to hang out with other dads and play some games, guilt free. For some of the fathers, it was the first time picking up some sticks and playing a PS or XBox in years. Although there were some lopsided outcomes due to this inactivity, no feelings were hurt and spirits ran high throughout the event. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the dads dusted off their old game consoles and started playing again inspired by the “Settle the Score” event.
The NYC Dads Group “settle the score” event with Battroborg is part of a national tour. Be sure to tune in and follow all of the action via twitter at #Battroborg:
