CBS News aired a segment yesterday with a powerful message: ‘New York City Dads Group’ Trying To Wipe Out Stigma Of Being Stay-At-Home Father – Dedicated Men Meet To Learn How To Do Tasks Traditionally Handled By Women.
Fortunately, NYC Dads are not alone – dads and communities of dads all across America are demonstrating that being an engaged and active dad is cool, rewarding, and a great bonding experience. A 1 minute and 45 second segment can only have so much depth. Consequently, I liked what WCBS-TV Correspondent/Anchor, Cindy Hsu, did with this story. Instead of the same old diaper-changing formula – this segment explains that dads are banding together for socialization and support which is a positive & necessary thing. Dads enjoy getting together for educational parenting workshops on topics like sleep issues, potty training, and the nursery school admission process which is common for most mom and parenting groups. Additionally, they included a conversation with Evolution of Dad Director, Dana Glazer, discussing the changing role of fathers in America. A special mention to Cindy Hsu who worked around our dad’s playgroup schedule, nap schedules, and managed to squeeze into the pint-sized chair at my son’s art activity table for the interview. She is a class act!
If you missed the segment, you can view it above…or CBS plans to re-run the segment on ch. 2 news today on the 12 o’clock news as well as on their Sunday morning show from 6-6:30am and in the 7-9am time slot.
