Unstructured play is my favorite time with my son – it gets rough, adventurous, and leads to so many teachable moments.
On the flip side, I am all for participating in a weekly parent & me class with my child for music and gym. These forty-five minute excursions get us out of the apartment, provide a social outlet, and are fun “loosely structured” bonding experiences. That said, an article about some parents’ ideas for “resume building” for their children is insane. Absolutely scary! Are some of us really raising a “generation of little machines?”
Read this extreme version, Poor Kids “tutu” Busy to Just Play by Andrea Peyser of the NY Post, of Manhattan parenthood and tell me if it doesn’t make you sick. Do you know parents that really do this?Side note: Those that live outside of the NY Metro area – please believe me, this is NOT the norm.
