Raise an Adult Without Hovering Over Your Children

November 9, 2015 by Matt Schneider Leave a Comment

How to Raise an Adult, the new book by Julie Lythcott-Haims

“How to Raise an Adult: Break Free of the Overparenting Trap and Prepare Your Kid for Success” author Julie Lythcott-Haims is our guest on the latest Modern Dads Podcast.

“Helicopter parent” is the modern putdown for the overprotective mom and dad none of wanted as a kid but so many of us have become as adults. Is it too late for us to change over hovering ways?

It’s not, according to author and former Stanford University dean Julie Lythcott-Haims, who joins us on the latest Modern Dads Podcast to talk about her new book, How to Raise an Adult, the new book by Julie Lythcott-Haims

Lythcott-Haims’ book, which City Dads Group gave a glowing review to back in June, recounts stories of young adults who have been left devoid of the basic life skills that are crucial to surviving in a dangerous unforgiving world because of their overprotective mothers and fathers. It is, as our reviewer said, “packed with solutions for preparing your children for independence while letting them know that you love them and want to be included in their lives now that they are adults.”

** Listen to the ‘How to Raise an Adult’ author now! **

Lythcott-Haims is a graduate of Stanford University, Harvard Law School and California College of the Arts. She lives in Silicon Valley with her partner of more than 25 years, their two teenagers, and her mother. She spent 14 years as an administrator at Stanford, working as associate dean for student affairs in the Law School, assistant to the president, and dean of freshmen and undergraduate advising at various times.

In addition, her work has appeared throughout the media including The New York Times, the Times Literary Supplement of London, the Chicago Tribune, The Atlantic, Parents, AsUs, the PBS News Hour, CBS This Morning, Good Morning America, The Today Show, National Public Radio and its affiliates, C-SPAN, the TD Jakes Show, and numerous podcasts and radio shows.
