At-home fathers from all over are scheduled to gather in Cincinnati in October 2020 for HomeDadCon, an annual “professional development” conference for full-time caregivers of the dad persuasion.
And you can get a ticket on the cheap this New Year’s Day.
The Oct. 8-10, 2020, convention is for at-home fathers who embrace parenting as their most important job. It allows them to network with other active and involved dads, and also gives these full-time parents a chance to relax. The year will be the 25th such annual conference.
HomeDadCon 2020 is organized by The National At-Home Dad Network, a nonprofit dedicated to providing advocacy, community, education and support for families where fathers are the primary caregivers of their children. Its stated purpose is to empower fathers and champion a culture that recognizes them as capable and competent parents.
The event usually mixes keynotes and panel discussions on weighty topics such as teaching children about sexual consent, diversity and racism with breakout sessions on various parenting topics both serious and not-so-serious. A few bonding events are also usually scheduled. For example, last year’s conference in Minneapolis, Minn., included taking in a professional soccer match and a river tour.
Depending on your data source, somewhere between 160,000 and 2 million of us exist in the United States – a number steadily on the rise in the past few decades as attitudes and gender roles in the workplace and the home have evolved.
