Time is running out to purchase a discounted ticket and book an on-site hotel room for the National At-Home Dad Network’s 2018 conference, aka HomeDadCon 2018, scheduled for Sept. 13-15, in Orlando, Fla.

The convention, now in its 23rd year, brings together fathers who are their family’s primary caregiver. HomeDadCon offers them “professional development” as men who embrace parenting as their most important job, allows them to network with other active and involved dads, and also gives these full-time parents a chance to relax. To that last point, HomeDadCon 2018 ticket holders have already been making plans for outside activities including trips to nearby Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Florida and more based on online postings.

Tickets to the three-day HomeDadCon 2018 are available at the early-bird rate of $195 until August 16. Tickets purchased after will cost $220.

The Embassy Suites Lake Buena Vista Resort Orlando, where the conference programming will take place, is offering double occupancy rooms for attendees for only $125 a night if booked through the organization by August 15.

A few of the HomeDadCon 2018 speakers have been announced to date with more coming in the next few weeks. Confirmed speakers will include:

  • Patrick Hempfing, syndicated columnist and author of MoMENts: A Dad Holds On
  • Christine Karper, a specialist in depression and anxiety disorders, talking about the importance of mindfulness as it relates to at-home dads.
  • Catherine Pearlman, aka The Family Coach, and the author of Ignore It!: How Selectively Looking the Other Way Can Decrease Behavioral Problems and Increase Parenting Satisfaction

The National At-Home Dad Network is a nonprofit dedicated to providing advocacy, community, education and support for families where fathers are the primary caregivers of their children. It’s stated purpose is to empower fathers and champion a culture that recognizes them as capable and competent parents.

The 2017 at-home dads conference attracted about 200 fathers to Portland, Ore., for three days in September. It featured weighty keynotes and panel discussions on topics such as teaching children about sexual consent or dealing with diversity and racism. Breakout sessions included the serious (homeschooling, mixing technology with parenting, raising special needs children), the essential (marriage/relationships, mental health) and the less-than-serious but possibly essential depending on you and your family (improving one’s laundry skills, creating balloon animals).

Depending on your data source, somewhere between 160,000 and 2 million of us exist in the United States – a number steadily on the rise in the past few decades as attitudes and gender roles in the workplace and the home have evolved.

DISCLOSURE: City Dads Group has been a longtime sponsor of the HomeDadCon and a frequent partner of the National At-Home Dad Network.
