Inspired by the recently rediscovered masterpiece The Book of Miracles, a wonderfully illustrated manuscript that depicts sublime visions of the 16th century, Hybrid Ecologies — and the mythical creatures that inhabit it — will reside in CMA’s Bridge Space through October 27, 2019.
Just as The Book of Miracles filled medieval citizens with wonder about where we all come from and where we are all headed, Hybrid Ecologies entices young visitors to let their imaginations soar and connect with each other by sharing their own spectacular stories in the transformed Bridge Space. After conjuring up ideas of their own — of a butterfly migration, an exploding volcano, or a hybrid beast — the children will record their fantastical visions to be played during future workshops in the space.
We hope you and your children will join us for this enchanting gathering!
In addition to viewing Hybrid Ecologies, the event will be a chance to learn more about CMA’s many civic-minded events and initiatives for children, including our 30th anniversary #CMACIVICKIDS Instagram campaign — which features a monthly giveaway of free membership to CMA for participating families.

About Hybrid Ecologies
Taking inspiration from The Book of Miracles, an illustrated manuscript depicting miraculous phenomena and awesome apocalyptic visions of the 16th century, Hybrid Ecologies looks to the past — ancient and medieval mythology — to speculate on the future of our changing times. This new installation by Teaching Artist Laura Bernstein in the Bridge Space offers visitors the opportunity to play within a living diorama to experience shifts in scale and time.
Founded in Lower Manhattan in 1988, Children’s Museum of the Arts’ unique curatorial program introduces children to world-class contemporary art exhibitions. The central Cynthia C. Wainwright Gallery displays a rotating series of contemporary artwork by emerging and established artists from New York City and around the world. CMA is currently in the midst of celebrating its 30th anniversary with CIVICKIDS, a year-long series of exhibitions, community events, and digital art calls that foster civic engagement and shared community pride through art-making.
