Ah, the smell of lumber in the morning!
Did you know Home Depot hosts a free monthly workshop for kids?
They provide all the necessary tools and materials (hammer, screwdriver, paint, stickers) and parents will support their kids in completing a DIY project. Although the workshop is geared towards children ages 5 to 12, younger children can participate with some help from grownups.
August 3rd’s workshop is a Rocket Pencil Box.
From the Home Depot Website:
Take school work to another galaxy in our hands-on workshop where you and your child can build a rocket pencil box. Your young aerospace engineer can study the anatomy of a rocket while you construct a handmade case together. Once your rocket pencil box is built, your child can decorate it with paint and stickers. All Kids Workshop attendees must be accompanied by a parent or adult at all times. All kids get to keep their craft, receive a FREE certificate of achievement, a Workshop Apron, and a commemorative pin while supplies last.
Along with signing up here. You must register at
Note: NYC Dads Group is not affiliated with Home Depot in any way. By participating in this workshop you understand that it involves working with heavy/sharp objects (hammer, nails, screws) and such activity carries the risk of injury whether physical or mental. You understand that it is your responsibility to supervise your children and will not hold the organizer or NYC Dads Group liable for any injury during this Meetup.
It is best to get there by 8:30am. I can not reserve a table for NYC Dads Group. It gets very crowded fast.
