DadCon@Home Fatherhood Conference Comes to Your House Friday

October 5, 2020 by Kevin McKeever 2 Comments

DadCon@Home 2020

The annual conference for at-home fathers comes directly to the living rooms, kitchen tables and man caves of its target audience starting Friday night as the ongoing COVID19 pandemic has shifted the yearly gathering from a hotel meeting hall to an online event.

DadCon@Home 2020, a conference for men who are the primary caretakers of their children, kicks off Friday with a 9 p.m. Eastern time virtual social event and then offers content to attendees Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. EDT. It replaces HomeDadCon, a three-day event that had been planned for the coming weekend in Cincinnati. Organizers, The National At-Home Dad Network, postponed the in-person gathering until next year out of health and safety concerns for attendees and their families. The meeting would have been the nonprofit support and advocacy group’s 25th such convention.

Tickets for the DadCon@Home 2020 cost $50. Scholarships would be available for those with financial need. (DISCLOSURE: City Dads Group has been and is a long-time sponsor and partner with The National At-Home Dad Network for the event.)

Organizers say the event will include many of things past attendees have come to expect at the event, including speakers, breakout sessions, the network’s annual board meeting and evening a virtual “wrap party” for attendees socialize. Among the subjects and speakers announced for the DadCon@Home 2020 are:

  • Donte Palmer, a Florida father of three, whose social media photo of him trying to change his son’s diaper while squatting on a restroom floor, with his child over his lap, went viral. Palmer later started the national #SquatForChange campaign to add more baby changing tables in men’s restrooms.
  • Opera singer Kenneth Kellogg, who will discuss his journey through life and how he has helped changed how fatherhood is perceived in the opera world.
  • An expert discussion on the father/daughter bond.
  • Budget and planning financial family emergencies.
  • Tips on teaching children at home from veteran homeschool dads.
  • A registered dietitian, who is also a certified trainer, offering strategies on dealing with children who are picky eaters.
  • A session to help primary caretakers learn to take better care of themselves.
