EDITOR’S NOTE: Our ongoing feature series spotlighting some of our group organizers heads to the Midwest. Creed Anthony is a founder of the Indianapolis Dads group (aka Indy Dads Group). He is a middle school teacher, a longtime dad blogger at My Captain’s Log (formerly Tales from the Poop Deck), and speaker at next week’s Dad 2.0 conference. His work has frequently appeared on the City Dads Group blog.

City Dads Group: How long have you been a member of the Indianapolis Dads group?

Creed Anthony: About five years.

What motivated you to join the group’s leadership?

There wasn’t a group here in town. I met [City Dads Group founders] Lance and Matt in New Orleans at the Dad 2.0 Summit and saw what they were doing in New York. I hoped to have something like that here in Indy.

What has been your favorite City Dads’ activity/event?

We had a coffee event where the dads got together, and we had some games and sidewalk chalk for the kids. It was a fun, low-key time.

What has been your favorite experience with your kids that’s unique to your city?

Anything with the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. We have loved being a part of the museum family.

What are some of the challenges that you and your leadership team have faced? How did you work past them?

Personally, my family schedule has altered since we first started. Dramatically so as the kids grow, interests, times, and opportunities change. Coordinating that with fostering a group has been a challenge, but one we will continue to work on – because that’s life, right?

What do you hope to achieve with your group in the next year?

I hope to establish a full leadership team. We’ve had some people move and get busy — again, that is life. I hope we develop as a group because it’s not my group. It belongs to the dads in the city.
