Editor’s Note: This post is sponsored by Huggies®. City Dads Group is proud to be part of the Huggies® Parents Council, an advisory group that works with the baby care products brand. Our time on the council has us thinking about how dads speak to our babies. NYC Dads Group member Christopher Confessore responded with this sweet letter to his child about the importance of saying “hello.” Each day Christopher wakes his baby with a loving hello and gets her ready for the day, often starting with a diaper change. She wears Huggies® Little Snugglers Diapers because they help keep skin clean … [Read more...]
Gay Father Finds Friends Fade, Family is Forever
Editor’s Note: City Dads Group is proud to occasionally feature writing from members of The Handsome Father, a support community that helps connect, prepare and inspire gay fathers. In this piece, David Hu writes about losing friends after fatherhood. To excited first time parents to be, I would offer encouragement and well wishes, but a bit of sobering advice as well: Be prepared to lose some friends. Daughter’s Cleft Lip Makes Dad Question What is “Normal”
Editor's Note: A cleft lip, with or without cleft palate, is the fourth most common birth defect in the United States, affecting one in 700 babies a year. In this guest post, Roberto Santiago writes about his inner turmoil reckoning his daughter's quest to look "normal." It's a weird thing when your 4-year-old gets a nose job. Editor’s Note: City Dads Group is proud to occasionally feature writing from members of The Handsome Father, a support community that helps connect, prepare and inspire gay fathers. In this piece, Jim Joseph writes about his desire to be a father. It’s always struck me funny how we tend to automatically give women credit for having maternal instinct. We rarely credit men with paternal instinct, and it’s only after we’ve witnessed a super-human effort from the guy … [Read more...]
Parenting Without God Teaches Kids to Question All Things
Editor's Note: Last week's guest column about teaching faith to children sparked a great response, in agreement and opposition. NYC Dads Group member Josh Kross offers his take on his parenting without God. I teach my children to be grateful for the world without needing to find responsibility for it. We have a tremendous gift in the universe, and it doesn’t matter why. The universe is not for us or by us. The universe just is, and that is all the explanation we need.
