The 2016 State of America’s Fathers report found that dads are generally more active in their children’s lives than ever. They are increasing the time they spend with their children and sharing child care responsibilities with women at all-time high levels.
However, the disparity between the classes is still great. High-income fathers receive kudos while dads of lesser means are “often either valued or stigmatized simply by their ability to pay their way.”
State of America’s Fathers report author Brian Heilman joins us on the latest Modern Dads Podcast to talk about the status of American dads in 2016. We discuss the differing challenges white collar, college educated dads are facing compared to less educated, lower income fathers. We also look at the impact of a dad’s increased involvement on his children, his partner and himself.
The Parents’ Phrase Book author Whit Honea, a member of our L.A. Dads Group, joins us with a conversation he recorded with his son about the state of fathers in their Los Angeles suburb.
