Then you want to read the recollections of actor Steve Guttenberg on growing up in Flushing during the early 1960s in a Wall Street Journal article from earlier this week.
Guttenberg, best known for roles in the 1980s movies Diner, Three Men and a Baby and the Police Academy series, recalls the awe he had of his own father in those days: “My father was a New York City police officer, and I remember him coming home with his police uniform, taking his gun off and putting it in a lockbox. Just having a dad who was a policeman was so cool. He was like a superhero.”
Guttenberg, who now lives on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, recently released his first-ever children’s book, The Kids from D.I.S.C.O.
