This weekend the city of Chicago holds one of its signature events, The Chicago Blues Festival. Every June for one weekend Grant Park down on Chicago’s lakefront is turned into a destination for music fans to be immersed in the rich sound of the blues. All you have to do is show up, because the best part about this festival is the price: FREE. Grab a couple lawn chairs or a blanket and settle in for an afternoon, a day, or a weekend of some of the best blues musicians in the world.
Over the years the festival has had some brilliant and exciting moments. The first festival was held just a year following the death of the blues great Muddy Waters. This year I think we can expect a nod to Prince and his contributions to and influence on the art form. This year there is an extensive line-up of great acts from all over and right here in Chicago’s own vibrant and mature blues scene.
This is a great way to introduce your family to the blues, it is sure to be an event that your kids will talk about as a fond memory. The festival runs Friday June 10th to Sunday June 12th between 11:00am-9:30pm.
