I wanted to take this opportunity to let all of our readers know that this year’s annual At-Home Dads Convention is happening in nearby Washington D.C. I use the word “nearby” lightly as it is certainly much closer than previous host cities Omaha, NE, Kansas City, MO, and Chicago, Ill. Daddyshome, Inc., the national fatherhood organization behind this wonderful event, have said that planning for the 16th Annual At-Home Dads Convention in Washington DC on October 8 is really heating up & they wanted to provide all interested parties with a quick update.
- keynote speaker will be Dr. Aaron Rochlen, Associate Professor of Counseling Psychology at the University of Texas-Austin. Dr. Rochlen has done the most extensive research on at-home dads and is among our most popular presenters from past Conventions. This year he will present a ground-breaking study on the spouses of at-home dads. You won’t want to miss out on this information or the discussions about it!
- the official Convention hotel is the Embassy Suites of Alexandria (click here for more info and to book your room). It is one block from the Metro and Train Stations and within walking distance or a short, free shuttle ride of the meeting space (most likely a Middle School with State of the Art Business Center facilities) which they expect to have confirmed shortly.
- Popular Meet & Greet event on Friday night before the Convention will again be FREE and the dinner on Saturday night after the Convention will be at Joe Theismann’s highly regarded restaurant located next to the Embassy Suites.
- Many guys have been hard at work planning and arranging details for this convention including the numerous, informative, and meaningful workshops.
- The Convention Committee expect to have registration available by around mid June (perhaps just in time for Father’s Day) so keep checking the Convention website at www.athomedadconvention.com and their forum at www.athomedad.org (recently named by the Examiner as the #1 Internet site for Stay At-Home Dads!) for the latest updates
I have attended the dads convention the past two years and both times I left the weekend super-charged about being the best dad I can be – more involved, more caring. I am Planning to attend as is our group’s co-organizer Matt S. Several other group members expressed interest in attending so I am hopeful the NYC Dads Group will be able to have a caravan or a gaggle of dads taking the Train to have an awesome guys weekend and learn a little bit about being a better dad along the way.
If you are not sure if attending the convention is the right fit for you, check out our review about it last year! Finally, we will continue to post a few updates in the coming months to keep you informed.
